GSCA to embark on a nationwide sensitization

According to the President of The Gambia Sickle Cell Association (GSCA) Alieu Sambou has disclosed that GSCA will be embark on a nationwide sensitization tour, in order to raise awareness to the community, improve the quality of life, empower individuals and families of those affected by the disease.
The tour is gears to achieve their goals during the celebration of the world sickle cell day, slated the 19th June 2019.
Mr. Sambou explained that the organisation was established in August 2007, went two friends at the University of the Gambia recognized the need for sickle cell awareness within The Gambian community. ¨Thus, they joined forces to create the Sickle Cell Association Banjul Chapter (The Gambia). It´s aim is to build awareness within our community and to impact positively on the lives of individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease.¨
He added that the ultimate goal is to improve the lives of children and families affected by sickle cell disorders through an effective implementation of the newborn screening follow-up program services.

¨We believe that through education, we can move towards a world- free of health, economic and social disparities caused by sickle cell disease,¨ he stated.
Disseminate information and educate communities on Sickle Cell Anemia is our main objective, he said, adding that to provide care and support for the chronically ill, the poor and less privileged in society; collaborate and establish links with organizations and agencies involved in the fight against Sickle cell and promote education and self-reliance of young people.
