Health minister visits horrible health posts, promised support




Dr. Ahmad Lamin Samateh, the Minister of Health has over the weekend visited about five horrible health posts in North Bank Region (NBR) and Central River Region (CRR), as part of fulfilling President Adama Barrow’s meet the people tour promises to make a different in the country’s development.

All the facilities they had visited are dilapidated and had no proper building, nor equipment or enough medication and nurses. Among the posts he visited were Nema Kunku in Upper Nuimi, Njau Sawalo in Upper Saloum, and Darou, Nawliro, Kerr Ardo and Kerewan in Badibou.

Part of communities demands to the minister and his entrenched, Sirra Badjie, the Officer in Charge of Nema Kunku health center thanked the delegates for supporting them with ambulance, while stated that is not easy to run a hospital without ambulance because they are always psychologically disturbed, especially when they have referral.

“Our facility is without laboratory service, there is no light, and the labour ward block is made out of mod, which always attacked by termites. The facility is not completely fence, and in the labour ward, there is no oxygen machine, and no auto clave, while the delivery beds are not in good condition. Our drugs store and family planning rooms are tight and there is no dressing room,” Mrs. Badjie stated.

Demba Sey, the Chief of Upper Saloum highlighted that out of 83 communities in his area, they had only one health post, which is Njau.

Hon. Mbow, the NAM of Upper Saloum expressed delight for the efforts of the minister in upgrading their health post to health center.

“Some people are saying President Barrow is sleeping, as far as he is sleeping and we are able to get his support, then let him snore,” Mbow said.

Different communities must concern raised to the minister, is the issue of their pregnant women delivering in a horse or donkey cart during their referral to far hospitals.  

They also complained not having good buildings, beds, equipment, laboratories, medication, ambulance, nurses, and good roads, among other things.
