Covid-19: Gambia confirms 37 cases, 2 deaths

The Ministry of Health on Saturday during the national situation report since the confirmation of the first case of the novel Coronavirus disease in the country, on the 17th March 2020, indicated that The Gambia has so far registered 37 cases of Coronavirus, 2 deaths and 24 recoveries.

The ministry further stated that 1 new laboratory confirmed case of Covid-19 registered, bringing the total number of cases ever confirmed in the country to 37.

“The new case is the second documented Covid-19 related death since the first case was reported in the country. In addition to his advanced age, he also had an underlying health condition–a known diabetic. One of the 129 new laboratory test results received returned negative.”

Ministry said while 22 people were newly taken into quarantine, 4 new people were discharged after testing negative for Covid-19 upon completion of the mandatory quarantine period.

“The newly quarantined were picked from different locations after it was learnt that they have a recent travel history to a country with ongoing community transmission. The country currently has 250 people under quarantine, 11 active cases and 2 probable cases.”
