Message to Gambian Filmmakers: Films and marketing, a spoon in milk bowl

By Director Cham

In The Gambia, about 70% of the populace did not realized the efforts of filmmakers but still they are doing greater efforts to attract more supporters with the constraint to remove thousands of dalasis without gaining much in return.

Now the Gambian filmmakers have to look at the perspective of filming and then link it with marketing.

Many filmmakers had been speaking about marketing but the truth is, we all should develop the standard of our films before talking of marketing, remember poor quality film attracts no agents for the world market.

Haven improved our standard of films, thereafter we can look at the main tips to easily market them.

Always remember filmmakers can easily get caught up in the mysterious and seemingly dull business of marketing.

Though it can be hard to envision using popular techniques for film promotion, I still urge the Gambian Filmmakers to do more search because it's a crucial step in business, especially the stage of films in Gambia.

For marketing, we Gambian filmmakers should define our goals and audience, because it helps a business anticipate and understand the demographics they are targeting, on a level that includes a potential buyer’s pain points, goals, and needs.

Once you have your audience in mind and your goals set, it becomes far easier to see the value we offer. In that case, our project won’t be everyone’s cup of tea.

Comrades, we need to plan ahead to create marketing content by releasing more attractive posters and trailers to frick agents and by doing so, we shall hit the nail on the head.

In the early stages, it’s also good to prepare our calendars for submitting press releases, hosting an event, like premiering, launching or applying to festivals. These reference points will keep us on track.

Comrades, we should as well consider our online presence because in Gambia we had few people who built interest in films and therefore we should take the onus to cave the way out. In doing so, we must have our social media platforms and website, it may not be necessary to create new pages.

We as well need collaboration and write a killer press release for publication just to attract followers. Gambian Filmmakers need to remember to promote every bit of their successes, like festivals, awards, recognition, and releases.

In conclusion comrades, i advised you all to utilize the Internet and Social Media, generate Press Releases and create a Series of Trailers.
