Spokesperson Taal Hails Sabally’s Contribution to UDP
Almamy
Fanding Taal, the spokesperson of the United Democratic Party (UDP), on Friday
hailed Momodou Sabally, UDP’s campaign manager for his expertise, knowledge and
contribution since being elected as a member of the UDP executive.
Taal
who was speaking to Gambian Talents TV couldn’t ascertain the reason why
Sabally left the party, saying his resignation has not indicated any problem
that warrants his decision. He said: “Sabally is not an ordinary Gambian
and he has held an important position in the past government. He has standing
and knowledge and since he joined our executive as campaign manager, he
contributed a lot.”
Taal
further highlighted that Sabally came to a party that had several experienced
people with lots of knowledge, arguing that if Sabally is part of any party, he
needs to be respected, given his due and listen to his ideas. He continued that
Sabally has made improvements to UDP since he joined the party, saying UDP is
still on track for its agenda to help transform the country and be one of the
leading.
When
asked whether Sabally’s exit wouldn’t cause any hindrance to the party,
spokesperson Taal said they don’t envisage the defection of Sabally to have any
effect on his party. Giving an example, Taal emphasized that if one can recall,
UDP had a big politician called Lamin Wa Juwara. He added that at some
point Juwara left UDP and established his own party which couldn’t continue and
he later joined and worked with the former president.
“Leaving
your party for another has been happening and we have to understand that UDP
has been here for 27 years. Since its inception, many joined and many have
left. Sabally’s defection brought about more noise but since 2021, we have many
people who leave UDP and no one talks about it. We are just from the Mayoral
elections and everyone knows that UDP is still in its position.”
