Reported by BBC. Atalanta's Musa Barrow has been handed a first call up by The Gambia's new Belgian coach Tom Saintfiet. Gambia Government Issues License to GACH Mining Company to Export Black Sand

By Pa Modou Cham The Gambia Government has issued a mining license to Gambia Angola China (GACH) Mining Company to export the heavy mineral concentrated sand locally called “black sand” from the country. According to Fatu Network, The Managing Director of GACH Group, Alhagie Sillah has confirmed the acquisition of a mining license for black sand at Sanyang, Kartong and Batokunku respectively. He added that the company is 100% Gambian owned. Sillah who was a former Banjul parliamentarian told The Fatu Network that the GACH Group is owned by a Gambian businessman, Abubakary Jawara who is serving as the country’s Consular General to the Republic of China since 2006. “We have followed the due process to acquire the mining license from the Geology Department in 2017,” MD Sillah said. “We went through all the procedures at the Ministries of Justice, Finance, Petroleum, Geology Department and Private Public Partnership,” he added. SHFC staff end over 5-hour standoff By Pa Modou Cham The stalemate which is as a result of a 6-month dispute between the staff of Social Security and housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) and their management ended following the intervention of country’s security chiefs. According to Kerr Fatou who confirmed the story said dozens of unhappy staff at SHFC have shut down the institution’s headquarters in Banjul for over five hours on Tuesday. The standoff rendered the office inaccessible to the management and other staff who are not on strike. The staff have arrived at the office early on Tuesday morning before working hours to close the office. Few hours into the working time, chief of defense staff Masanneh Kinteh, police inspector general Mamour Jobe and director of State Intelligence Services Ousman Sowe, have arrived to engage them. Kiang Keneba Youth Embark on Historic Tree Planting By Pa Modou Cham Keneba Youth Association for Environmental Development and Sustainability (KYAEDS) has recently embarked on a historic tree planting exercise in Keneba village in Kiang West district, Lower River region. The village youth with the support of soldiers from Pakaliba Military Camp, Jarra, Lower River Region and well-wishers planted about 13, 000 gmelina trees to protect and boost the village’s forest cover. The association’s environmental initiative embraced by the whole community of Keneba and beyond is registered under the community forestry project under the Ministry of Forestry and Environment. According to the President of KYAEDS, Abdoulie Minteh, the tree planting exercise was driven by the level of environmental damages as a result of cutting down of trees, bush fire, natural and other human activities which necessitates replacement.
