PPP congress lack legitimacy-BB Darboe
Bakary Bunja
Darboe alias BB, the former vice president of the first republic disclosed at a
press conference held today at Fajara that the past People’s Progressive
Party (PPP) congress totally lack legitimacy.
“The
election was not base on universal sovereign. I did review the whole electoral
process and consulted with some officials, and the conclusion I came without
any doubt in my mind is that the congress and the election of the party leader
lack legitimacy.”
He added that there were many frauds and
manipulation which has come to light for many others.
He strongly
stated that the congress completely departed from established practices and
norms for that kind of political activity.
“During the
three days of the congress, it was a mixture of faults law and cheat politics
but not a congress in the accepted sense of the words. Congress everywhere is
expected to be a meeting of duly selected and accredited delegates of different
components that constitute party.”
Darboe
reiterated that the party supposed to engage in serious discussions of issues
of importance about the life of the party in term of what they have gone
through, future directions and plans.
“The minimum
engagement of the party should be substantial debates in an atmosphere which is
open and the decisions lead to the view of the majority. In congress that last for three days in which
there was no debate and we were treated uncomforted. Even if the proceeding
starts, our microphone will be seize by our host OJ Jallow and kebba Jallow who
even higher griots to harangue us,” he pointed.
He lamented
that they were invited for the election of certain party positions and they
were also told at the absent of the function organising committee that the
election part of the work of the congress has been given to the Independence
Electoral Commission (IEC). He added that at the day of the election, they came
to realized that IEC was there to observe but not to control the election
process.
He explained
they had several reactions from the people that the congress is unacceptable.
