GYIN Director wins ‘Youth of the Year’ Award

The Executive Director of Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN- Gambia) Mamadou Edrisa Njie has been declared the winner of the “Youth of the Year” that was conferred by The Stone Circle, a youth-focused online media.   
The awarding giving ceremony is slated to take place today in his GYIN office at Churchill town.
The award, which is in commemoration of the International Youth Day, seeks to recognize the efforts of youth and celebrate their invaluable contributions to national development.
The Publisher and Editor-In-Chief of The Stone Circle, Saikou Suwareh Jabai has said the annual award is aimed at recognizing and encouraging young Gambians who continue to achieve and make outstanding contributions to national development.
“Not all those who strive succeed. The ‘Youth of the Year’ award do not only acknowledge success; it will also recognizes many other qualities such as ability, struggle, effort, commitment and above all, excellence in service,” he said.
Jabai explained that the awarding is based on editorial judgment and that it takes the past 12 months under-review. He added that three candidates were nominated and Mamadou Edrisa Njie finally won majority of the votes.
He described Njie as passionate youth worker who has done tremendously well especially in the area of rural youth empowerment, adding that young people like Njie need to be encouraged to keep going above and beyond.
The Managing Director of The Stone Circle, Ebrima Darboe congratulated the award winner, saying the award speaks volume about Njie’s selfless services to young people of The Gambia.
“Nothing makes hard work feel more well-earned than a sense of acknowledgement,” he said.
Darboe further reiterated that every day, young people set spectacular goals and achievements are being reached. He added that there is no better way to reward these achievements than such a prestigious an award.
Reacting to the news of his award, Mamadou Edrisa Njie expressed delight about the award.
“I am honored to be the ‘Youth of the Year’. This award is a manifestation of the work that I am doing in contributing to national development,” he said.
Njie dedicated the award to his mentor Moses Abukari, the former IFAD Country Programme Manager for West and Center Africa.
