CLMSND Hold Capacity Building Training for the People of Jarra Sankwia

A one day capacity building workshop was sponsored and organized by the Center or LEADERSHIP and management for sustainable National Development (CLMSND), in collaboration with Sankwia Village Development Committee (VDC) official at Jarra West District, In the Lower River Region (LRR).
A total of 35 VCD participants took part in the capacity building training, held in Sankwia Multipurpose Centre recently.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the founder of CLMSND and the sponsor MR. Jorbateh Fofana explained that the objective of the training is to build and enhance the leadership and management skills of VCDs to be able to effectively perform their duties and responsibilities to promote the welfare and wellbeing of their communities. He added that to ensure a lasting and enduring national development, is critical to have a vibrant and healthy communities which will require strong and effective leadership across all sectors of our society.
Further sharing a brief background information about his organization, Mr. Fofana, noted that the organization is a non-governmental and social development organization aimed at contributing to the advancement of the country and making difference to the life of the people, focusing on six strategic priority areas, including Capacity building for grassroots leadership , as well as private and public institutions.
The vice chairman of Mansakonko Area Council Mr. Almamo Ceesay, who deputized for the Chairman of the Council, thanked the organizers for their foresight and the great initiative.
The CEO of the Council Mr. Paa Sait Ceesay also applauded the sponsor for the noble initiative, saying for over five years the Council have been looking for partners to support the training and capacity building of VDCs, but has never materialized.
He lamented over the Council’s limited financial resources, noting that the total annual compound tax revenue for the entire LRR is about D974, 500, which is still based on the 1972 tax rate.
Furthermore, the CEO noted that the average total compound tax collected from villages cannot even build a single well for the community. However, he expressed the Council readiness to work together with CLMSND to move forward the implementation of the Decentralization policies and programs to promote bottom-up development approach.
Other speakers at the program included the SVDC Chairperson Madam Haddy Ndow, the Alkalo of Sankwia village Madi Kanyi and Arfang Momodou Fofana respectively.
