Barrow: I’ll do better than former presidents



The president of The Gambia Adama Barrow has boosted that he will do more development in the country than former president Yahya Jammeh and Sir Dawda Jawara, while requesting support from Gambians to complete his endeavor.

He was speaking at the laying of the foundation stone of his first major project of constructing roads and building bridges in the Upper River Region (URR) over the weekend.

He expressed delights to lay the foundation stone; saying is long awaited and overdue projects of the contractions of roads from Basse, Fatoto to Koina and the building of bridges between Basse, Fatoto, Kamoi and Kuduo.  He added that the project marks a significant milestone in the development of URR and the entire country.

The president further reiterated that the laying of the stone is a demonstration of his government’s commitment to improve road networking, the services for public education and health services, and a creation of economic booming able environment and to improve the economic service of rural resident.

He recalled that during the political impasse, he had the opportunity to travel the length and breadth of the country, in particular the local part of URR and he made this promise with much justification that he will work on infrastructural development went his government take power. “I’m happy that I fulfill my promises.”

He buttressed that in 2017, The Gambia requested ties with the Peoples’ Republic of China to strengthen diplomacy, trade and economic ties. He said during his visit to china last December, he signed series of agreements, including the first mayor project in URR, saying “is indeed a dream come through.”

“Many towns in URR and Central River Region (CRR) have been isolated for eight years due to poor infrastructure; inability to access farmland, health centers and intercommunity connectivity, therefore the community will have numerous benefit and social improvement in the projects. The project will help in creating markets and poverty reduction for the people of URR.”

He thanked the Chinese president for the support and the trust they have in his government.
