Darboe: I’m not desperate to become Gambia’s next president
The vice
president of The Gambia and the leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP)
Ousainou Darboe has boosted that he is not desperate to lead the Gambian
populace in next elections to come.
“I am not
desperate to be the President of The Gambia, but any forces of whatever
description; of whatever status in life, who attempts to divide the UDP, I will
take you head on; I will fight you to prevent that. That is my mission. I will
not preside over the disintegration of the United Democratic Party,” he said.
He was
speaking at the opening ceremony of UDP’s congress held recently at a local
hotel alongside Senegambia.
“There is
nobody in the country that would dispute that Adama Barrow is not the president
of The Gambia and no one will dispute that I’m not the leader of the UDP. I can
only not being the leader if they happen to choose someone in congress and
Barrow’s presidency can also change only after elections,” he said.
He lamented
that he will not preside to the disunity over UDP, instead he is elected to
literate and to get more people to join the party.
He lamented
that UDP will continue to strengthen the country’s democracy because it was his
party’s commitment to throughout a dictatorship regime and fought for
democracy.
He therefor
calls on the party militant to respect the party and contributes to its
development.
The
political leader further claimed that UDP remains the strongest political party
in the country. He added by thanking the people who came from different part of
the world to grace the occasion and contribute their quarter in the party’s
development.
He pointed
that it will be his party’s commitment to make sure no form of dictatorship
will return in the country.
Alhagie
Dembo Bojang, the national president of UDP lamented that they have concluded
congress in different regions with peace and they remain to be the most
powerful party in the country, while describing the party as “all tribe party”.
He call on
the unity of the party, saying that the party members use to insult some
political leaders, which they should stop and work together and see UDP as
their party.
On others
raising annoying words to UDP, Mr. Bojang commonly known as Dembo-By-Force
reiterated that if they don’t stop making noise to towards the party, their own
party will be collapse but not UDP.
“If we are
not united, people would not have attended our congress. People have come to
attend this congress because we are united,” said Dembo Bojang.
