Gov’t commits to continue support on health services

The minister of health and social welfare Dr. Isatou Touray has stated that The Gambia government has committed to continue its support on health services, in order to build a healthy nation.

She made this statement during a speech delivered at the world AIDS day held at the Paradise Suit Hotel, alongside Senegambia.

“The National AIDS Secretarial (NAS), Action Aid International, The Gambia and the ministry of health and social welfare through the nation AIDS control program will continue to spearhead the nation response in partnership with other stakeholders in the country to continue support in the health sector. The Gambia government will remain committed to the creation of the enabling environment through concrete action, public investment and policy engagement with a view to strengthen the gains made in the national response to HIV and AIDS in The Gambia,” she said.

She added that the government of The Gambia is acting under the promise it made at the 2016 United Nations high level meeting on HIV and AIDS, to scale up universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.

She pointed that they have support from the Global F und providing universal access to antiretroviral treatment as well as Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission (PMTCT) services in all the region.

Ousainou Darboe, the vice president of The Gambia expressed delight to grace the day on behalf of the president. He said his government is visible to support the health sector, in particular health care for HIV patience.

He added that the commemoration of the world AIDS day will help raise the awareness of the people with regards to AIDS.
