Securities train on public order management, VIP protection ahead of OIC



Securities of The Gambia ranging from the Police, Army, Revenue, Prison, Immigration, State intelligence and others had graduated from a course on public order management and Very important Person (VIP) protection ahead of the Islamic Organisation Conference (OIC) to be held in The Gambia sometime in 2019.

The graduation ceremony was held recently at the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) in Kanifing.

Spt. Lamin Sanyang, the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of The Gambia Police Force (GPF) explained that 226 officers were trained on public order management and 254 on VIP protection. He added that OIC was founded in 1969, which comprises of the voice of 69 countries across the globe.

He said Gambia hosting the Muslim leaders in the world is not an easy task, instead is a big challenge to the security sector as we live in a world of terrorist.

Ebrima Bah, OIC strategic committee and stated that 480 officers were trained from all security apparatus in the country. He said the ministry of interior has setup a security steering committee to facilitate the functions of security in the country for the success of the OIC summit.

Alagie Musa Dibba, representative from the State Intelligence Service (SIS) highlighted that the summit will provide job opportunity, create economic and infrastructural development for the country.

“The training is to protect people during the summit without any difficulties. We receive message from the trainers that none of the officers shows single disrespect to them, so that’s a great sign for mission complies,” he added.

He calls on the participants to seize the opportunity to learn more and swear they allegiance to serve the country.

Essa Bokar Sey, OIC national secretarial pointed that there is no committee that is more important than the security, saying “if something happen, you are the people who will stand and fight for your nation but not others”.

Mamour Jobe, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) expressed delight that the securities are prepared and well fit for the upcoming OIC summit.

“Is our responsibility to ensure security in any how. We all have to prepare and execute our duties because we don’t want failure. We are expecting to train three thousand (3, 000) officers for public order management and VIP protection,” he noted.

He however thanked the graduates for their commitment during the training.
