Senegambia run for integration set fo Friday

Officials of Senegalo-Gambia Permanent Secretariat over the weekend briefed the Media on the Senegambia run for integration which is slated from 18 to 22 January, 2019.

The run for integration is a relay run from the foot of the new bridge at Yelitenda- Bambatenda crossing point in the North Bank Region to Senegal’s capital Dakar, covering a distance of 320 km.

However, six teams have registered in The Gambia with a sum of eighty thousand dalasi (D80, 000), including Senegalese teams, Italy and France. The run is dedicated to the president of Senegal, Macky Sall and The Gambia, Adama Barrow.

The captain of the winning team will hand over a letter of goodwill from President Adama Barrow to President Macky Sall. Meanwhile on January 21, the runners will return to the Bridge to award the certificates of dedication of the Run to President Barrow and President Macky Sall coinciding with the official opening of the bridge.

This event was conceived in 2010 and over a period of years they have worked hard to perfect it as a realistic and manageable event.

The annual event will be the first relay road run between the two countries in the history of the Senegambia region. The distance to be covered is approximately 300 kilometers, making it one of the longest relay races in Africa.

The event will cover a period of three days with night stops in Kaolack and Mbour (Senegal).
