Turkey donates $1.4M worth equipment to GAF



The Turkish embassy in The Gambia has handed over a donated none-lethal material worth $1.4 million to The Gambia armed forces (GAF).

The handing over ceremony was held at the Defence headquarters in Banjul.

Speaking at the ceremony, Gen. Masanneh Kinteh, CDS of GAF thanked the Turkish government for their tireless support in bringing the necessary equipments they needed.


“The materials worth $1.4 million, is all geared to support our dreams to make our officers equipped. These equipment are the materials that you will find in any military apparatus and it is important to us to receive such a great material.

He appealed on other partners to support the GAF in the reconciliation process. He added that since the new government they have been receiving lot of support from different people but the Turkey’s one is exceptional. “We are just beginning to see the real image of GAF and I can assure you that 2019 is a turning point to us.”

Turkey's Ambassador to The Gambia, Ismail SefaYuceer stated that the relationship between Gambia and Turkey is going more meaningful, adding that they have been rendering services to the Gambia for long time.

“We have been providing training for the GAF and now there is an ongoing training program that we are rendering to GAF. We are also supporting the development agenda of the Gambia and her peoples,” he added.

Nevertheless, he expressed delight by thanking the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) for strengthening the bilateral relationship that exists between the two countries.

Lt. Lamin K. Sanyang the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of GAF has said that the first batch of equipments was brought on October and the one they received is significant to they work.


He added that this is a testimony of long standing relationship that has existed between the two countries. He however welcomed the great gesture of Turkish support to GAF.
