YEP launches IT, digital entrepreneurship component





The Youth Empowerment Project (YEP), a European Union funded flagship project to The Gambia launched an Information Technology (IT) and digital entrepreneurship component aimed at developing the IT sector with a focus on tech start-up support programme that on board 25 Gambian tech start-ups.

The launching was held yesterday at The Gambia Chambers for Commerce and Industry’s main office in Bijilo.

Baboucarr Sallah, the project manager at YEP explained that Yep is a four years project that is looking in various sector and the IT is part of them, in order to create opportunities for the young medium and small scale enterprises in developing their businesses.

“We initiated this programme to help them move from the level they are currently into more advance level and giving them the opportunity for networking both locally and internationally. The overall idea for the one year training programme is to look at the status at the moment and give them the information they need in term of running their business.”

He said they are hopeful that the participants will be able to upgrade into more mature level in their businesses, added that after the training the participants can obtain grand from YEP to uplift their businesses and create jobs for the upcoming.


Haifa Ben Salem, YEP Gambia Sector and Enterprise Competitiveness Division of Enterprises and Institution stated that they want the participants to know the needs of their customers and to propose a solution that will fit the customer, welcome their basic ability, feasibility and viability.

“After the training, the youths will have the skills to develop and be the next leaders in IT. During the training each of them will be focus on their customers on how they can deal with them.

Kara Jagne, a participant from Gamdroit said YEP is doing a great job for them to know how to establish a company and what targeted customers in real life scenario.

He expressed delights, saying that YEP is helping them to know their business and how they can make it in their future business.

He added that the training will help them to conduct proper research for our customers before consulting them.
