KMC commission 23 waste trucks

The Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) has on Saturday commissioned its 23 waste trucks that meant for collection of waste in both residential and commercial areas.

The lunching and commissioning was held at Buffer Zone in Tallinding.

Waste collection and rubbish disposal play an extremely important role in the country’s cleanliness and sustainability drive, with people’s health and the conservation of resources being the responsibility of every government.

Talib Ahmed Bensouda, the Mayor of KMC has described the ceremony as a historic and innovative municipal waste management initiative between KM ward development committees and Espace Motors.

“The PPP lifespan is three years after which the trucks will be fully owned by the KMC. It consists of 19 wards and the fees for residents are 50-100 dalasi per month for weekly collection depending on usage.”

He assumed the trucks would be the highlight of the event however this was overshadowed by the unity and humility shown by people from different parties demonstrated by a rare handshake between UDP party leader and APRC National Mobiliser
